Some believe that Uitkyk’s vineyards are planted on the “amazing wine vein” of the area. Uitkyk is situated on the R44 in between Stellenbosch and Paarl.Once you enter into the gates, you are immediately transported into a valley where it seems as though you have left all of civilisation behind you. This is perfect for a quiet day out wine tasting.
The friendly staff make it easy to find your way right into the tasting centre, where you can choose between various tastings, purchase a bottle or two of your favourite Uitkyk products or decide on a wine that will accompany your picnic basket.
Before selecting one of their very special wines for your picnic, you can browse through the rich history and numerous awards on show in the tasting centre. Learn about the soil types and terroir varietals, which were specially groomed to create each bottle of magic on display throughout the tasting room.
Of course I had to taste the MCC…perfectly crisp and fresh! The fine bubbles and zesty flavour made it the perfect afternoon picnic drink of choice.
If you prefer something a little more “full bodied”, I would highly recommend you try the Uitkyk brandy selection on offer. It is no wonder that the flavour of the brandy is so well known, as it has been produced on the estate since 1712. Its woody balance and complexity makes this 38% bottle of joy something to definitely not pass up on.
What could be better than a picnic on a gorgeous day in Cape Town…nothing right?! Uitkyk has ticked this box off their list and made it especially memorable for you and your loved ones. Picnic spots are nicely spread out on the luscious lawn and allows you to book a spot to ensure you are not sitting remotely close to anyone else. A material umbrella or a shaded tree shelters your picnic from the blazing South African sun.
Once you have selected your Uitkyk wine, your basket of delicious treats awaits you on the lawn. The opulent picnic basket of treasures sets a picture perfect ambiance while to sip away and enjoy the breathtaking view.
The picnic basket, which serves two, is priced at R400 and includes mineral water and a bottle of Uitkyk wine (of your choice.) There is an option to upgrade your picnic to the R430 Carlonet Picnic which includes a bottle of the estate’s flagship Carlonet wine or the R450 Glass Memoires Picnic which includes a bottle of the new MCC.
The basket consists of artisanal breads, locally made cheeses, homemade patés, olives, a selection of charcuterie and rare roast beef, smoked salmon, baked quiches, fresh cut fruit and decadent chocolate brownies to end your meal off on a sweet note.
Relaxing is not always a word synonymous with a family day out with the children, however Uitkyk has you covered. From jungle gyms and sprawling lawns, the kids and adults alike would appreciate the croquet or boules that are all already set out for you to enjoy.
Picnic blankets and/or picnic tables are provided for the comfort of guests. I recommend booking 24-hours in advance to avoid disappointment. You can call 021 884 4416, or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your spot.
So the next day, the sun beams through the clouds (hopefully not, as we need the rain,) book a picnic with a difference at Uitkyk and let me know how you found it at email@example.com
Happy Picnic-ing 🙂
