Who Tuk(Tuk) you to breakfast last?

With the birds chirping and the sun beaming through our windows, nothing screams lazy summers morning than a trip out to the gorgeous wine county of Franschhoek. Before sipping on a glass or three of Franschhoek’s world-renowned bubbly why not prepare you stomach for the culinary delights of the day ahead and start with a new member of the breakfast community – TukTuk Microbrewery

I know what you are thinking, breakfast at a Microbrewery?! Yes…you heard right.

TukTuk Microbrewery has fast become a landmark on the Franschhoek golden strip and for good reason. Their beers have been specially crafted in house and immense detail has gone into each and every flavour profile. The fun thing about that is that when ever you pop in there is bound to be a new release for you to try.

On this beautiful summery morning, we were craving a hearty breakfast that would set the tone for the ample amount of wine that can be consumed in this region. TukTuk has recently launched their brand new breakfast menu and it was exactly what we were looking for…a Mexican fiesta! The type of fiesta that would make you want to take a siesta pretty soon afterwards.

The perfectly on trend interior is a welcoming and refreshingly chilled space to enjoy breakfast on an early weekend morning, carbo load before you and your cycling buddies hit the trails, after work drinks or pre-dinner tasters. Either way TukTuk is the perfect Hot Spot to relax and unwind with a cold one.

The breakfast menu is uncomplicated, uncluttered and inspired. There are four items on the menu and each offer their own unique flavour profile and taste sensation true to its Mexican inspiration. The menu reads as follows…

Of course a strongly brewed coffee and freshly squeezed orange juice where on the cards. Who can have breakfast without these staples?

As I browsed the menu overlooking the Franschhoek main street, I was pleasantly surprised to see locals running their early morning errands, a few groups of international tourists with large maps in hand and socks and sandals (not mentioning any specific geographical location – Germany haha) and chefs from various establishments walking to their restaurant with brown packets loaded with fresh ingredients/produce for the day busy day ahead.

After a few moments of people watching, chatting about possibly trading the city life for the country life and a few snaps later our breakfast arrived…Yum. Apologies if this post makes you hungry, I feel hungry again just sitting here writing about it.

Spicy Sausage and Mushroom Bap with a Fried Egg, Mozzarella and Spicy Ketchup

Pico de Gallo with Spicy Chorizo, Stringy Mozzarella Cheese Omelette

Creamed eggs, Homemade Bacon, Stuffed Jalapeño Breakfast Taco’s with a spicy Ketchup

Breakfast Taco – Creamy Eggs, Bacon and Hot Beans

With a feast like this we were completely spoilt for choice as we indulged in the Mexican inspired flavours carefully curated by the Head Chef to ensure that there was ample flavour in each and every element of the four dishes offered.

How could you possibly have space left after that feast, right? Wrong!! We couldn’t pass up the opportunity to come full circle and enjoy a traditionally South American snack/sweet treat…churros. Served with a hot chocolate dipping sauce…you had me at hot chocolate…yum!!!!

TukTuk has fast become my go to in Franschhoek, a weekend in Cape Town very rarely doesn’t include a scenic 45 min-1 hour drive to the incredibly picturesque town of Franschhoek and I look forward to visiting again for this breakfast and a beer tasting of whats about to be realised…as we may have found our way to the filtration room with the master brewer…summer flavours here we come!
